Josef Strauss (August 20, 1827 - July 22, 1870) was an Austrian composer. He was lovingly known as 'Pepi' by his personal & close friends.

A boy of Johann Strauss I and brother of Johann Strauss II and Eduard Strauss, he was born within Vienna. He worked at first as an engineer & designer prior to joining a personal orchestra in the 1850s. His academic accomplishment at an early age don't point to him existence the composer when he was as well destined by his father for the career in the Austrian Habsburg military although he flourished as an architect for the Vienna City Council in 1853 & potentially presented to the Vienna Municipal Council with elaborate plans for the street-cleaning cost machine.

He was clearly reluctant to deputise for his brother Johann Strauss II when his elder brother was taken seriously sick around 1853 as his first ever promulgated act "Die Ersten und Letzten" (A Number 1 & a Endure) tangibly displayed signs that he was non intending to maintain that position for yearn. A waltz-caring Viennese, yet, were appreciative of his early waltzes & polkas & he decided to prove my point plying his trade the personal craft of composing waltzes & more ballroom music. He married Caroline Pruckmayer at a church of St Johann Nepomuk around Vienna on 8 June 1857 and had merely of these girl, Karoline Anna, world health organizatiin was innate on 27 March 1858.

Josef Strauss never enjoyed effective health throughout his life & in the period of the tour to Poland in 1870, he fell unconscious from either a conductor's pulpit when conducting his 'Musical Potpourri' & was hastened back to his range in Vienna by his overwrought married woman. It was back residence in the 'Hirschenhaus' that Josef died in 22 July of 1870. The final diagnosing exclusively reported the decomposition of blood which led to several hearsay that he wwhen beaten by boozy Russian soldiers when he allegedly refused to perform music for the babies a single nighttime although his dying would non become ascertained as his widow woman possibly forbade an pm. His grave is on St. Marx cemetery.

He wrote several waltzes, many of the babies however in the definitive repertoire including "Sphären-Klänge" (Music of the Spheres), "Delirien" (Deliriums), "Transaktionen" (Dealing), "Mein Lebenslauft ist Lieb und Lust" (The Character is Love & Joy) & "Dorfschwalben Aus Osterreich" (Village Swallows from either Austria), polkas (most famously a "Pizzicato Polka" by using his brother Johann II), quadrilles and more danceroom music. His pieces tend to exist as of the other good character than victims of his sib. This was reflected in the waltz "Dynamiden" in which his utilise of minor mode imparted an well-nigh pensive quality & invariably distinguished his waltzes from either that of his extra popular sr. brother. He virtually all probably stamped his family mark on the polka-mazurka where he wrote many abiding examples prefer "Die Emancipirte" & "Die Libelle". His amazing output of dance pieces would use at times surpassed that of his sr. brother, got he survived, when Johann was by so concentrating in writing music for operettas and more stage works.
